Eelco C.J. Hakman studied neurology, music and psychology in Amsterdam; received his Ph.D. in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery from the VU University, Amsterdam.
Prof. Dr. med. Eelco C.J. Hakman was active in neuropsychology, as treatment coordinator in a clinic for addicts and as senior consultant in youth psychiatry. He also participated in Indonesia in a research project on the influence of Vitamin deficiency onto the developmental phase.
For his research and book on "Psychological aspects of face corrections" he was granted the title of Professor to teach Dentistry. Since 25 years Prof. Hakman has been working in association with Prof. Bram Tuinzing; the development of a multidisciplinary screening-model "3-degrees-anamnesis" for diagnostic purposes instead of a classification is one of his most important project.
Eelco C.J. Hakman continued his psychology studies in psychotherapy and specialized in three areas: The Supervision and Teaching of Psychotherapists, along with the foundation of the multidisciplinary, so called "Oral Psychopathology" - a bridge between dentistry and maxillofacial surgery to Psychology and neurology.
Prof. Dr. med. Eelco C.J. Hakman is also the co-author of many books and medical movies; since 1995 he is a member of the European Advisory Board on Medical Ethics.
In September 2005 The Paracelsus Medical University has awarded him with the first visiting Professor chair to teach "Stomatologie und im Besonderen Psychopathologie in der Zahnheilkunde und Kieferchirurgie"
Prof. Dr. med. Eelco C.J. Hakman's credo is: "There is no prognosis without a diagnosis, and no diagnosis without an anamnesis".
Eelco C.J. Hakman is married and father of three children.
